Name five reasons young people want to use technology...
  • Technology is faster than most methods of doing anything.
  • Playing video games using ipods and cell phones is a lot more fun these days than playing outside.
  • All the adults around them are using technology therefore they want to use it.
  • They can find out about anything they want on the Internet
  • All of their friends are playing the latest games, listening to the most recent music on their phones and we all know that if all the other kids are doing you they want to too.
Did you identify with any of the Young people in the clip? why?
  • One the women on the clip talked about how she hates it when people e-mail her or write her and use Internet lingo such as u = you or abbreviations such as omg for oh my gosh. This is also a pet peeve of mine. I cannot stand it when people us omg and besties in sentences when they are talking. This lingo is meant for texting, instant messaging and e-mail not for everyday conversations.

Do you agree that having instant access to everything via the Internet helps you to know yourself better? why or why not?

  • I disagree. I don't think it helps me to know myself better but it definitely helps me know other people better. Now that e-mail and facebook and twitter we can know everything about everyone. Google is also and explosion of knowledge in and of itself. If anyone wants to know anything all they need to do is "google" it.

Do you agree that technology helps pave the way to move forward as a civilization? why or why not?

  • God would not have given us technology if he did not intend for us to use it so yes I believe that technology is moving our civilization in the right direction. We are becoming more knowledgeable! While at the same time technology is causing us to have less and less face to face communication. The people in our civilization are loosing touch with each other. It is sad but true

  1. I definately agree with all five of your reasons for young people using technology especially the one about friends using it so they want to use it. I know that is definately true for most all young people I know. If our friends our doing it, it must be cool to do. Also I would like to apologize for I am one of those people who use abbreviations ALL the time. I guess it realtes to your first reason young eople like to use technology....because it is fast. I feel that typing those abbreviations helps me get my point accross in the fastest way possible. I do understand how that could be a pet peeve though. I mean if someone is important to me I should be willing to take my time to write in correct English to them. I never speak in those terms but I do sometimes catch myself writing like that in birthday cards or letters I send. But I usually do try to fix it to proper English, it is just that I am used to writing like that all the time and it almost has become a habit. A habit that I am trying to change.
I also extemely agree with your every word in your answer to the technology and civilization question! You said what I tried to say in my blog but couldn't find the exact words to explain it. I think technology has definately helped us grow in knowledge but made us talk to computers and phones instead of more face to face communication and socialization.

    Good points! Definately insightful!

  2. I also agree with the five points you made about why they use technology. They were all very good reasons! Technology is so available now that we can do almost anything on it and it's fun!
I agree that texting talk is not for everyday conversations. It's okay to use while texting someone or instant messaging someone because it's quick and easy to write. But when you are having a face to face conversation with someone, you need to leave that lingo behind and talk to them like they are a person!
You brought up a good point in saying that God would not have given us technology if He didn't intend for us to use it! God gave us the ability to think and to imagine new things, why wouldn't he want us to use the imaginations He gave us to explore and try out new things!?!
